Something Fast

A lot of people have asked me how I make my Illustrations, what goes into them, can I make a tutorial, etc. This is the closest you will get to any of those.

Firstly I should probably say that I use Adobe Illustrator; photos of my girlfriend Darla (Janna, as most of you know her has legally changed her name to Darla for God knows what bizarre reason), which you may not see on account of her being naked on them and this is, after all the internet and sooner than later they would end up on some random pornsite and she would not like that. I also use the good old paper and the good old pencils.

Here follows a run-through of the last image I did:

1: Line-out of photo of girlfriend made in Illustrator: Image

2: Line-out printed out and sketched on and around: Image

3: Scanned back in to Illustrator and (what will become) the outlines: Image

4: The white spaces are actually “fills” on top of the black: Image

As you might’ve seen some of the white is cut-outs of the black. I always do this with the face since eyes are pretty hard to do inverted.

That’s basically it. I might add that I always do each colour on a separate layer, I make good use of the pathfinder. I’m no Illustrator wizard and hardly know any of the, probably very useful tools that it contains, I more or less use it as an ink-pen.

Oh, one last thing this is a very good tutorial on how to finish up your work and get rid of all the things sticking out where it should not.
